These are linked to activities for the week ahead. The work packs will contain some optional extras if you wish to use them in the coming weeks. This is explained in more detail in the cover letter in the work pack.

Once upon a picture is a great website! The link is above. It contains many images and prompt questions to ask your child. I know Junior and Senior Infants have really great imaginations and will come up with some amazing answers to the questions!

Writing Letters and Numbers:
Encourage your child to write and draw as much as possible. This will help their pencil control and pencil grip.
Write out numbers or cursive letters in a dark colour marker and tape to the window to trace.
Write out the numbers or cursive letters in a highlighter or light coloured marker for your child to trace.Encourage them to write the numbers and letters independently without tracing also! They don’t need to be perfect!

Counting:Spend 10 minutes counting each day. Count up and back from 1 to 10/20 or more if they like! Choose different starting points. Start at 3 and count on/back Start at 6 and count on/back etc.
Use any opportunities that you can to have your child counting! Climbing the stairs and counting the steps, counting toys, count and sort the cutlery draw, count the steps from one room to another and so on.
Guess the number: Use any small objects and a tub/pot. Drop the objects into the pot/tub one by one and ask you child how many did they hear drop into the pot. They can tell you the number or write it down for you.

StoryTime: A Squash and a Squeeze by Julia Donaldson.

A Squash and a Squeeze by Julia Donaldson. Listen to the Story. Complete the suggested activity in the above plan.
There is a free activity book if you click the link below. Some of the content can be done without printing it https://www.gruffalo.com/gruffalo/files/6f/6f0481b5-b9ef-4d21-a0f5-4e5e1b1bdf99.pdf

Tricky Words must be learned by sight and cannot be sounded out. In school we play Tricky word Bingo and Go Fish. You can find printables here:  www.scoilnet.ie/ or you could make your own!
Write the tricky words on pieces of paper and stick them to the wall beside the doors in your home. The children can high five the words as they leave or enter the room. We do this in class when they are going to the yard and going home.Add new words each day!

A Message to all the Junior and Senior Infants and their families.

March 26th 2020
A really big HELLO! 🖐to my fantastic and amazing bunch of Junior and Senior Infants!! I am missing you all very much! I am also missing our very busy and fun classroom! I am sure you all are missing it too!! You are probably also missing your friends.Hopefully it will not be too much longer until we are all back together again and having lots of fun in school!! Until that time comes, I will be posting some suggested activities and some school work on this page for you to try at home.Remember....if you find something difficult just try your best like you always do in school!

Hello to all parents and grandparents, I hope you are all keeping well! I know that the infants will need assistance with their school work and will only be able to work on some activities independently.I will keep this in mind and try to keep a balance when I am posting activities. I also know how busy households can be so please know that you can use as little or as much as you like of what I post here.Once we are back to our usual routine the children will catch up in no time at all.

In school we would usually complete all of our literacy and numeracy in the mornings before 11am. Afterwards we would start Aistear. With this in mind, we must remember that play will be an important element of the children's day.
Story-time will also be important, so keep reading to the children everyday!

I have set up an email address for anyone who may wish to contact me while we are not in school. The email is scoiliosainfants@gmail.com 😃
