There were a few penguins who needed repair but they all looked lovely after some glue was used to put them back together! We took our time and used small brushes to paint them white, orange and black.
Literacy Stations in Infants
Aistear: The Arctic and Antartica
We are learning all about The Polar Regions. We painted Polar Bears using white and black paint and learned one colour is dark and the other colour is light. We learned all about how Polar Bears keep warm when swimming in the cold water. We put butter and cotton wool into a ziplock bag to create blubber and fur. We took turns and placed our hand inside the bag and then into some icy water and our other hand straight into the icy water. We could feel which hand felt colder!
We enjoyed playing with the animals in the Arctic and Antartica small world that we made. We built some igloos using sugar cubes which tied in nicely with learning 3D shapes in Maths. We learned about the lifecycle of Penguins. We had lots of fun with clay! It got a bit messy but we loved it! We made clay penguins and then we had time to make anything we liked.
We enjoyed some books about Polar regions with our toast and juice in the mornings. And used these books during literacy stations to search for tricky words.
