Welcome to Ms. Donohue's 4th class !

Wellbeing Committee

Thank you to Kara Hinch who is our 4th class rep on Scoil Íosa's wellbeing committee. She did a great job reporting on the committee meeting and asking for our class feedback on fundraiser ideas for Pieta House. We are looking forward to the activities the wellbeing committe has in store and are grateful for their hard work .

Shape Shifters

We've been learning all about 2d shapes and lines and angles in our maths stations with Ms Geraghty. This week we focused on tesselation . We made 2d shapes and created tesselating patterns.

Science Week 2021

Although science plays an important role in every week in Scoil Íosa, it's great to dedicate a full week to investigating and experimenting! We completed an experiment each day ;coke and mentos, exploring density with rainbow water, making lava lamps and an acid base reaction with baking soda and vinegar.

Principals award

Congratulations to our classmate Seán Walsh who won the first 'Principal's Award' this year. This was to recognise Seán's hard work, particularly the huge effort he has made in improving his handwriting and general attitude to school life! Well done Seán we are so proud of you !

Spooky Season

4th Class had a fantastic day celebrating Halloween in school. We started the day admiring each others costumes. Garda John Barry from Tallaght Garda Station paid a visit to talk about safety at Halloween, particularly how to be safe when trick or treating and around bonfires. He gave us some food for thought! This was followed by our annual witches walk in Tymon park. We would like to give a special thank you to everyone who sponsored us , the money we raised is going towards upgrading our courtyard for outdoor learning. In the afternoon , we watched a spooky movies and had microwave popcorn. Ms. Braniff dressed up as flash and whizzed around each class delivering treats . After a fun filled, busy day it was time for home and we got a yummy trick or treat bag from Ms. Donohue and Julieanne to enjoy at home.

Architects, Engineers and Builders Oh My!!

We have been learning all about materials and famous buildings around the world. We talked about all the different people who are involved in creating these buildings and their  role. We learned about the job of an architect, engineer, and builder. We took on all three roles as we worked in groups to design and build a structure that could withstand hurricanes and floods. Firstly though , we had to budget our raw materials as each group only had €200 to spend. We worked well as a team and had great fun testing each structure. Overall, it was a huge success!

Mighty Musicians

1st to 6th class have started ukelele lessons this term and it's a huge hit. Stephen from Music Generation South Dublin visits each week for a lesson. Every Tuesday we strum to our heart's content and our sweet melodies fill the halls.

Artful Artists

Check out our art gallery below. We love to get creative so check back often as we will continue to add to it throughout the year

Literacy and Math Stations

4th class have really enjoyed working in stations for literacy and maths.  Ms. Donohue and Ms. Geraghty teach us in small groups and we change task every 15 minutes. We like working together in small groups because we find it easier to concentrate and can ask lots of questions. Like goldilocks, it helps learn at a level that is "just right" for us! We work hard every day and show respect and responsibilty when we are working at independent stations. We also developed our organisation skills as it's our responsibilty to prepare our materials and folders.

Ms. Loane's Retirement

It was a bitter sweet day today as we said goodbye to one of Scoil Íosa's finest. Ms. Loane has not only taught us but she has even taught some of our parents, aunties and uncles. She has been an incredible asset not only to our school but the whole Tymon Community.
To celebrate the beginning of her next chapter and show our appreciation we held a whole school assembly. Some 4th class children read out their predictions about what she will do during her retirement. Sky-diving, escaping to a remote island , having all night disco parties were but a few of our suggestions. She has promised to let us know what she gets up to. We also preformed her favourite song shot gun as gaeilge.

Recount Writing

This term we are working on the genre of recount. A recount retells events, some examples include diary entries, auto-biographies and newspaper reports.
To start our shared writing, we first had to have a shared experience to write about. So what better excuse to have a class trip to Tymon park, we even brought Ms. Loane along for her final Scoil Íosa trip before she retires.
We had lots of fun playing in the fairy forest with our friends. Then it was back to school to write about our trip , we first made a plan and then began writing putting the events in chronological order and using interesting time connectives.

We are back !

Oh it's great to be back! We are having so much fun settling into 4th Class. We worked hard learning our new class expectations and procedures.  To celebrate our hard work we had an Ice-cream party.

Research Projects

This week, I set an assignment for you to do a research project on a country of your choice. You could present it whatever way you wanted.
I am delighted with the work that's come back in - the projects are all very different, but they're all amazing! A lot of time and effort went into researching, selecting relevant information and getting it all down on paper. You should all be very proud of yourselves!
I think a little prize for everyone who did a project is in order...check your work packs on Tuesday ;)
Check out the research projects out below...

Desert Island Challenge

This week, I set the children this challenge:
You have been selected to spend 4 nights on a desert island. The weather is the same as in Ireland. You need to choose what items to bring with you from a list, which includes the weight of each item. You can take whatever you want from the list, but it cannot exceed 15kg. What items will you bring?

Check out some of their answers. Is there anything that you would change?

27.04.20 - Active Home Week and Weekly Plan

Hello to my wonderful 3rd & 4th class! I can't believe it's already Monday again - these weeks are flying in! I must say, I'm delighted with the work everybody has been doing from home so far, and hope that you can all keep up the pace. You've been amazing!

This week is Active Home Week - like Active Schools' Week - but from home! You will be given daily challenges and it would be great if you could send me a picture or video of you completing any of the challenges. I've uploaded the whole school Active Home Week plan below. Keep an eye on our twitter page for updates too @scoiliosa1.

Seeing as it's Active Home Week, the staff at Scoil Íosa didn't think it would be fair for just the children to have to complete challenges...SO...why don't you challenge us?! Think of some exercises or wild and wacky challenges and email or tweet them to us! We'll upload the photos or videos of ourselves for you to have a good aul laugh at our expense :)

Now back to business...your plan of work for this week is attached below. Enjoy :)

Some of the entries for the diorama competition are in and I have to say, boys and girls, I am blown away with how good they are! Everybody seems to really have given it their all and spent a lot of time and effort making their diorama just perfect. It is going to be a VERY difficult competition to judge, but whether you win a prize or not, you should ALL be extremely proud of yourselves!

For those of you who have not yet submitted your entry, you can still email it to me at siobhanlevey1@gmail.com. The competition will be judged on Friday, so make sure you get your photos in to me before then!

26th March 2020 Update

Hello to all my little messers in 3rd and 4th class!

I hope you're all keeping well and that you're not missing school too much. I know I'm missing you all and I'm really looking forward to getting back to school to see you all.

I have set up an email address for you to send me pictures of all the fun things you've been doing at home. If you've completed any of the tasks I set for you before we left, I'd love to see how they turned out. You can send pictures to siobhanlevey1@gmail.com and I will post some of them to the school website. It would be nice to see what everyone else has been getting up to, wouldn't it?

From next Monday 30th March, I will be setting more work for you to do and it would be great if you could send me pictures of any work you've completed.

In the meantime, if you or your parents have any questions about the work that I assigned, please email me and I will get back to you as soon as I can.

Looking forward to hearing from you.
Stay safe!
Ms. Levey
