Our Green School - Day of Action
As part of our goal to earn a green flag for our school, we all did a clean up of our school grounds.
We were shocked by the amount of litter we picked up! Our class alone collected 8 bags of rubbish.
We are hoping to keep our school litter free and so, have decided to do a clean up once a month.

Lego Maths
Transition year students from Greenhills College came in to teach the class maths through Lego.
We are hoping to get this up and running again in the new year because we had so much fun problem solving and discovering interesting new ways that we can learn maths through playing with Lego.

Science - The Skeletal System
The boys and girls learned about the bones in their bodies. They learned the names of them, their function and some interesting facts.
We drew the outline of a body (thanks to our “victim,” Tadhg) and the children put the bones in their correct places.

Embroidery Club
Our embroidery club finally finished the welcome sign for the reception area. It took a lot of time and effort, but the children learned a fantastic skill that hopefully they’ll be able to use for years to come. The next step is to actually hang them...we’ll get to that.
Goalie of the year award
Scoil Iosa don’t do goalies...but if we did, they'd probably be the best goalies in the world.
Shout out to Ms. Loane for always being a great sport! P.S. don’t tell her I put all these pictures up 🙈

Fancy Dress & Witches Walk
For the end of term today, we dressed up in our Halloween costumes and went on a sponsored Witches Walk in Tymon Park. It was freezing cold, but we kept warm by playing in the autumn leaves, running around, climbing trees and building forts out of broken branches. When we got back to school, we had a disco and games in the hall (thanks to Ms. Carroll for organising!) It was such a fun day and a lovely way to end the term.
Halloween Week
2nd and 3rd class have had a very busy week making paper mache masks, halloween paintings, Rice Krispie buns and chocolate apples!! The masks took us most of the week to do, but they were well worth all the effort because they turned out amazing...what do you think?
Barrier Games
As part of an oral language lesson, we played a barrier game. We worked in pairs and put a "barrier" up so our partner couldn't see what we were doing. We both had the same picture and one person gave instructions for the other to follow. We had to be really focused and give very clear instructions, for example, "put the blue paper clip on the right handle of the small cupboard". We had great fun doing it and learned a lot about giving and following instructions.
Maths challenge: Teacher vs SNA
This week we were learning how to read analogue and digital time. We had great fun playing games on the interactive whiteboard. One of the games we played involved reading the analogue time and choosing the correct digital time to match. When we all had our turns, Ms. Levey challenged Julianne to see who could get the most correct answers in 1 minute. The loser had to buy the whole class a treat...Ms Levey won :) Thanks for the chocolate, Julianne!!
Bim Bum!
This week in music class, we learned a new song called "Bim Bum". We had to sing along to the song and follow the actions on screen. It kept getting faster and we had a hard time trying to keep up :O We think we did a great job...what do you think?
Caitheamh Aimsire
In September, 2nd and 3rd class learned about hobbies in Irish. Check out our photos and see if you can guess what hobby we're acting out...!
Welcome back!
Ms. Levey is so excited to be teaching 2nd and 3rd class this year. Be sure to keep an eye on this page for updates on all the awesome things we get up to! It's going to be a great year!
Our School Tour.
In June, we all headed off for the day to a magical place called Fort Lucan. We had so much fun, zipping around and slipping and sliding down the water slides. It was the most awesome day!!!
Sports Day 2018
On Monday the 14th of May, second class had a fantastic pizza party as a reward for all their hard work in preparing for their Holy Communion. Teacher ordered cookies and pizzas from Dominoes and we all had a lovely party day. Well done to all the boys and girls , we are all so so proud of you.
Here in 1st and 2nd Class our super duper mega stars have been preparing and working hard for their Holy Communion. We are so so proud here of all these wonderful boys and girls. They have worked exceptionally hard to practice to perfection their prayers, readings and songs for the big day, and have had the best crew to support them along the way, with the great boys and girls of 1st class rowing in behind them. Our whole school are super excited to see them on this Sunday the 13th of May 2018 for our Holy Communion Mass. Well done everybody!!!
Spring time brought chick time! Here we are with our schools chicks who we watched hatch from their incubator into the big big world. Here we are , being so careful with them, caring for them and giving them as much love as we can. We are such great minders to our new BABY CHICKS!
In Spring, we studied alot and learnt alot about how to measure length and how long things are around our room. I t linked in pretty well with our plants and herbs that we sowed and are preparing to plant. We used our hand span, rulers, the metre stick and the trundle wheel to measure how long different things are in centimetres and metres.
Easter brought huge feats of entrepreneurship and engineering. I am very proud to show you what our 1st and 2nd class here in Scoil Iosa designed and made. It sure was an Egg-traordinary Egg-stravaganza!!!
This week, we had a super visit from our friend Grace. She came and listened to a story and we all had great fun! We miss her so much and wish her to get well soon!!!
Our class's First Confession occured on March the 15th 2018 and it was a wonderful evening. We are very grateful to our parents, Father Ben and our school community for all the work they put in to preparing us for our special time. Well done all!!!!
World Book Day 2018 came with a flurry of excitement. We dressed up as our favourite charachters , we read to each other and listened to some lovely stories being read to us. We even had a famous author come and visit us to tell us about the process of writing and how she drafts, edits and publishes her stories. It sure was a fun week!
Wednesday the 21 Feb 2018 was a very exciting day for all of us here in Scoil Iosa. Xquisite who got the Golden Buzzer on Ireland's Got Talent dropped in to show us their awesome dancing. They Shook it Off on the Scoil Iosa stage. It was a phenomenal show and we wish them all well and hope everyone in the country gets behind them!!! GO FOR GOLD XQUISITE!!!
Valentines Day was a lovely day, in which we made some beautiful cards for our mums and dads to show our love to them for all the wonderful things they do for us. We explored many traditions of the day, and how it was celebrated around the world, and even some superstitions that old people used to hold about V Day from very long ago! It was a lovely way to break our term for a few days rest and TLC. We hope that you had the most wonderful Valentines Day too!
Shrove Tuesday brought Pancake Tuesday hot on the heels of a busy start to the Season of Spring 2018. With the help of our instructions from our procedural text, we got right into making the tastiest pancakes in Tallaght. In scenes to rival the best in the Great British Bake Off, our eager crew of 'cake decorators' smothered and smeared their pancakes with toppings of chocolate and honey and sprinkles galore.. making Pancake Tuesday 2018 the BEST yet!!
At assembly, each month we also celebrate the boys and girls with perfect attendance, who have never missed a day in school for the whole month of January. Here are some kids after they received their awards.. well done children!!!!
The first of February brought a spritely step to us all as we celebrated Saint Brigids Day. We were gifted some lovely rushes from Michael a Minister of the Word at the Church of Saint Aengus here in Tymon North, from which, after a lot of trying and making of mistakes Ms. Collins eventually used to make a St. Brigids Cross. And we did some lovely colouring of Saint Brigids cloak spreading across the land.

At the end of January and for the beginning of February, our class has been so lucky to have been chosen to host a lovely student teacher called Ms. O Connor. She is learning a lot about how to teach while in our class and is sharing some wonderful new techniques and methodologies to teacher and kids too. Her theme while with us has been 'Africa' and here , in these pictures, the pupils are having a whale of a time making their own African jewellery. Hold on to your hats folks, as these kids are guaranteed to be the 'haute couture' designers of the future.
In January, we read a story called "Aliens Love Underpants". Inspired by it we designed and created our own display of the same name with some great results!!! See if you can spot yours!!!
Today was Grandparents day at school! We invited all our nanas and granddads to a special school mass. Next they came and visited our classroom where we gifted each one a special memento for their super special visit. And next, in our classroom, we all joined together and had a sing along to 'My Grandfathers Clock' by the great Jonny Cash.. next stop for us .. The Gaiety Theatre!!!
A huge thanks must be paid to our lovely grandparents who took time off work or time out of their busy days to come and see us.
And we fondly remember those who could not be with us today.
The memories that you have helped create in your grandchildrens lives shall no doubt be cherished for many years to come.

This year we have SO many VIPs in our class since our wonderful pupils in 2nd class are making their Holy Communion. They are ably supported by an AMAZING crew from 1st class. This is the first selection of Holy Communion Art that we have completed this year.. stay tuned for more to come!
Here's one piece of art that we completed for Art in January called 'The Rocket Ship'.. We all really love talking about blasting off in our rocket ships and landing on the moon!
We are learning about procedural writing. This is all about how to write instructions that we can follow to do things. In January, we finished a piece of writing about how to blow balloons. In class, we all had tons of fun blowing balloons and afterwards wrote down our experience. It is such a great time at school!
On Fridays, as part of our PE lesson, we love to play parachute games. We play popcorn, and we really really love playing lifeguards and sharks. Fridays are such a fun day in 1st and 2nd class!
On Tuesday this week, we got a HUGE Surprise... IT SNOWED!!! So, we paused our lesson and all got our coats on and headed out to have a little play. It was just the ticket for a wonderful start to a very happy New Year!!! Many happy returns to you all!!!
