Elves on Strike! 🎄🚫

We had great fun recording our Christmas play this week 'Elves on Strike'. The elves were adamant to get a pay rise and were threatening strike action if their demands weren't met. With their excellent negotiation skills and determination, they were able to reach a compromise with Santa and Christmas was saved!! Some upcoming future actors and actresses here in Scoil Íosa! Watch this space! 🎥 🎅🏻

Maths Shape Hunt

First Class loved learning about 2D shapes this week. We went on a shape hunt around the school to find some real life shapes and recorded our results. Our observation and identification skills proved to be in great shape!! ✏️🔵

World Kindness Day ❤️

Being kind is one of our golden rules in 1st Class. To celebrate World Kindness Day, the children wrote compliments to each other and also had a little surprise on their desks reminding us to be kind always!

Introducing First Class 2019/2020

This was our first day of our first week in first class! That's a lot of firsts!
We found a mystery briefcase full of items and a note. The note gave clues about each item and we had to figure out who it belonged to!
Picture
It didn't take us smarty pants long to figure out this case belonged to our teacher and it was filled with things she loves.
We packed our own suitcases full of our favourite things and we're ready to take off on our adventure in first class!

Harvest Time

It's finally time to harvest our vegetables! Unfortunately Senior Infants' runner beans did not survive the changeable weather, but the baby carrots planted by 1st class are ready to eat! We also tried the delicious strawberries planted by our gardener, Phil. Yummy!

An Nuacht

Inniu an Aoine.
Inné an Déardaoin.
Mí Bealtaine atá ann.
Tá sé an-te agus grianmhar.
Níl  sé  scamallach.
Chuaigh mé go dtí an pháirc inné.

Green Fingers

We've been very busy since the Christmas holidays growing our own vegetables. Senior Infants have planted runner beans, and 1st class are growing baby carrots. You might have spotted them in our classroom window - they're getting very tall! This week, our gardener, Phil, helped us to move them outside to the school garden to give them room to grow. Hopefully we'll have some tasty vegetables to try before the summer holidays!

Bookworms

Senior Infants and 1st class love a good story! Check out some of our favourite picture books below:

A Special Visit

We had some exciting visitors in Senior Infants and 1st class today! Isla, Amber, and Holly are assistance dogs in training. They help children and adults with special needs. You can recognise a helper dog because they wear a reflective coat. We learned that if you see them with their owner, you should always ask before you pet them. Isla, Amber, and Holly's owners were happy to let us have a cuddle! They were super fluffy!

Marvellous Maths

Senior Infants and 1st class are fantastic mathematicians! Check out some of the things we've been up to so far this year!

Grandparents' Day

Senior Infants and 1st class really love their Grannies and Grandads! We've been talking about all the things we love to do with our grandparents, and some of the different things they've taught us.
Some grandparents were able to visit us in school. They helped us to design the 3D houses we're going to make later this week. Then we had a prayer service with the whole school.

Gaeilge

D'fhoghlaim Naíonáin Shinsearacha agus Rang a hAon dán nua. Éist agus tá súil again go bhaineann sibh taitneamh as!

Senior Infants and 1st class learned a new poem. Please listen and we hope you enjoy it!

Adventure to Imaginosity

1st Class News
On Friday, we went on a bus to Imaginosity with Junior and Senior Infants. We had a great time. When we got there, there was a pretend restaurant, a supermarket, a doctor's surgery and a climbing frame. After exploring, we learned about how spaceships take off. We did experiments with balloons and carbon dioxide, and then we made our own rockets!

Lilia: My favourite part was driving the car.
Rebecca: I liked the exercise bikes and checking my pulse.
Cian: My favourite part was spying on people from the submarine.
Farrah: My favourite part was the real car!
Archie: I liked robbing the bank!
Jacob: My favourite parts were racing the cars and building Kay a house.
Saoirse: I liked robbing a bank with Cian and Archie.
Jake: I liked going into the climbing frame.
Lucy: My favourite part was in the bank, making rubbings of coins.
Grace: I had no favourite because it was all cool!
Teacher and Kay: We enjoyed having cake and tea in the diner!

Conor's Cowboy Suit

Picture
Last week, Senior Infants and 1st class got to visit Castletymon Library. We met an author called Gillian Perdue, who read us one of her exciting stories. 'Conor's Cowboy Suit' is about a little boy who loves everything about cowboys! When Conor's parents give him a present of a cowboy suit, he wants to wear it all the time. At school Conor is teased about his cowboy outfit, but he doesn't care. Then the other children in his class think it's great fun and they want to dress up too - even the teacher!

Gillian had cowboy hats for everyone and we had lots of fun acting out the story and doing all the different voices. We even learned a cowboy dance!

Oíche Shamhna i Naíonáin Shinsearacha/ Rang a hAon

We've had so much fun in Senior Infants and 1st class celebrating Hallowe'en! We created some crazy pumpkins and did lots of Hallowe'en maths and phonics activities. Gardaí Danny and Richie visited to remind us about staying safe during the holidays. We know that we should go trick-or-treating with an adult and we need to be extra careful around bonfires and fireworks. Have a look at our photos below, and look out for our silly pumpkin friend!
