Our Aistear Theme
Bears! 🐻🐼🐻🐼
We learned all about different types of Bears! We looked at and listened to lots of different stories about bears. Our favourite books were Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What do you see? and We're Going on Bear Hunt! We looked at Panda Bears, Brown Bears and Black Bears. We learned about what they ate and where they lived. We found out which Cartoon Bear was the most popular in our class. We played in role as Doctors and Nurses in the Teddy Bears Hospital, we set up a Teddys Bear Picnic and we made a Bears Cave to play in! We also made story maps of We're going on a Bear Hunt for Art! We had great fun and we loved it!
Halloween Fun!
There was lots of fun and excitement when we came into school dressed up for Halloween! There were lots of great costumes, some lovely party bags full of treats 🍬🍭🍫🧁 and we had some free play time with our friends. We watched a Halloween cartoon at the end of the day and had a great time. We even went on a walk outside around all the classroom windows to show off our costumes! 👻☠👹🕸🕷👀🎃
Time for some Voting in Infants!
We had a vote to see which Halloween Movie we should watch! We discussed what we knew about voting and decided it was a fair way to choose which movie we should watch. Next, we all took a vehicle from the tub and then we placed our vehicle on the picture of the movie we would like to see. Finally, we counted the vehicles to see which Movie got the most votes. We said: Better Luck Next Time! to the group with the least votes and we said Well Done That's Great! to the group who got the most votes. |
Junk Art!
We love junk art in the infant classroom! We love to cut, tape and stick and design our own creations. We also love a Junk Art station during Aistear and we try to make items related to our theme of the week. To help us gain our Green School Flag we took all our Junk art collection and emptied it onto the floor and began to create anything we wanted! It was messy but we are great at cleaning up as a team! We got stickers for sharing and helping our friends too.
Morning Activities!
Most mornings you will find us working on our fine motor skills which help build strength in our little hands! We love some of the activities and find some of them can be tricky! We use water droppers and coloured paint, threading (not a favourite!) pegboards and pictures, Pom Pom Pinching, nuts and bolts and lots more!
Maths is Fun!
➕➖🔴🟦🔺
Junior and Senior Infants have been busy ! They have been having fun with Maths activities! They have been learning about two and three colour patterns, colour sorting and matching and making 2D shape pictures. Of course we always have a few minutes to just play with the concrete materials after we have our work completed!
Engineers Week
Build a Bridge Challenge!
As part of Engineers week we used some of our Aistear time for some engineering challenges! The Infants first challenge was to draw, design and build a bridge. Some worked alone and some worked in groups or pairs. They used 3D Blocks, Lego and pieces of card. They did a great job!

Engineers Week: Rapunzel Challenge!
Another challenge set for for Engineers Week was connected to the story Rapunzel. We read the story and then the children were set a challenge. How can you help Rapunzel down from her tower? She no longer has her long hair and is not waiting on the Prince. How will she escape?
We had some great ideas! Jump out onto a trampoline or bouncing castle, build a slide, a zipline or a ladder and we even had an axe made to chop down the door and walk down the stairs of the tower!

Happy Halloween!
Aistear
We have Aistear time everyday and we play in our groups at different stations. All the junior and senior infants play together. There is sand, make believe, playdough, junk art and construction. We have set up a doctors surgery in our class this month. Every day we play and everyone has a different job. It's so much fun!
Our Autumn Art
Us junior infants have been very busy having lots of fun, going on nature walks and making art. We made dingle dangle scarecrows, an autumn tree, hedgehogs, self portraits and scary Halloween bats.

The Teddy Bears Hospital
Senior Infants brought their favourite teddy to school to take part in our Teddy Bear Hospital. We had a visit from a nurse called Mark who chatted to us about the importance of healthy eating, looking after our bodies and visiting the doctor. Everyone had great fun looking after their sick and injured teddy bears. We would like to thank Mark for taking time to visit Scoil Íosa.
